Visa and Mastercard casinos in Ontario
Reviewed by Danielle Tremblay, Editor
Cards are accepted at all five of the licensed Ontario casinos we cover, and they are the payment method we recommend least. Not because they are unsafe — a registered operator handles card data to the same standards as any other regulated merchant — but because of what a card does to the shape of your spending. A credit card deposit can be treated by your issuer as a cash advance, which means interest from day one at a higher rate with no grace period, plus a fee. A debit card avoids that but is generally slower in both directions than Interac. This page explains when a card makes sense, why gambling transactions are sometimes declined outright, and how card withdrawals compare with the alternatives at our AGCO-registered casinos.

Credit versus debit
A Visa or Mastercard debit card draws from your chequing account and behaves much like Interac, though it usually settles more slowly on the way out. A credit card borrows. Many Canadian issuers classify gambling deposits as cash advances, applying a fee of a few dollars or a percentage plus immediate interest. If you are going to use a card, use a debit card.
Why cards get declined
Some Canadian issuers block gambling merchant codes as a matter of policy, even for licensed Ontario operators. The decline comes from the bank, not the casino, and no amount of retrying will change it. Some banks let you toggle gambling transactions on or off in their app. If your card is blocked, Interac is the straightforward alternative.
Card withdrawals and timing
Card payouts travel back through the card networks and take one to four business days at the casinos here, against under a day for Interac. Withdrawals must usually go back to the card used for the deposit, up to the deposited amount, with any excess routed elsewhere. That rule is an anti-money-laundering requirement, not an operator quirk.
Keeping control
If you use a card, set a deposit limit in your casino account on the same day you register. Card spending is the easiest to lose track of because the money is not leaving a visible balance. Reviewing your statement monthly and comparing it to what you thought you spent is a genuinely useful habit.
