Gambling age and taxes in Ontario
The legal age to gamble online in Ontario, how age is verified, and how recreational winnings are generally treated by the CRA.

Two questions come up more than any others from Ontario players: how old do I have to be, and will I owe tax.
The age is 19
You must be 19 or older to gamble online in Ontario. Registered operators are required to verify this, not just ask. Expect to supply your full legal name, date of birth and address at sign-up, and to confirm them with documents before your first withdrawal. Accounts that fail verification are closed and funds returned to source.
You must be physically in Ontario
The operating agreements cover play by people located in Ontario. Operators use location checks to enforce this. Attempting to disguise your location breaches the terms of your account and can cost you your balance.
How winnings are usually treated
For most Canadians, gambling winnings from recreational play are treated as a windfall and are not taxed as income. The picture changes if gambling is conducted as a business — for example, where play is systematic, organised and relied on as a livelihood. Interest earned on winnings held in an account is a different matter and is generally taxable.
Get advice for your own situation
This is general information, not tax advice, and individual circumstances differ. If your play is substantial or regular, speak to a Canadian accountant rather than relying on a forum post. Keep records of deposits, withdrawals and session history; every registered Ontario operator can export them.
