Online blackjack in Ontario
Reviewed by Danielle Tremblay, Editor
Blackjack is the one casino game where your decisions change the maths. Played with correct basic strategy on a favourable rule set, the house edge can sit under one per cent, which is lower than anything else on a casino floor. That makes rule details worth reading. Whether the dealer stands on soft seventeen, whether you can double after splitting, how many decks are in the shoe and — above all — whether blackjack pays three to two or six to five will move the edge more than any bet sizing you try. This page compares blackjack across our five licensed Ontario casinos, covering both software tables and live dealer rooms, and explains the strategy basics well enough to play competently. Every casino here is registered with the AGCO and contracted by iGaming Ontario.

Rules that change the edge
Three to two on a natural is the single most important rule; six to five roughly triples the house edge and should be avoided. Dealer standing on soft seventeen favours you. Fewer decks favour you. Double after split and late surrender both help. Side bets — perfect pairs, twenty-one plus three — carry a much higher edge than the main game, which is fine as entertainment but not as strategy.
Basic strategy in four lines
Always split aces and eights, never split tens or fives. Double a hard eleven against anything but an ace. Stand on hard seventeen and above, and on hard twelve through sixteen when the dealer shows two through six. Hit otherwise. Never take insurance. That covers the overwhelming majority of hands; a full chart is worth keeping open until it is automatic.
Where to play in Ontario
888casino leads for blackjack because of its in-house live tables and the range of rule sets available. BetMGM has the most variants overall across software and live, plus higher-limit rooms. LeoVegas is the pick for phone play. PlayOJO and Jackpot City both offer solid standard tables but fewer variants, which matters if you want a specific rule set at a specific stake.
Card counting and bonuses
Card counting does not work online. Software tables reshuffle every hand, and live shoes are cut and shuffled to prevent it. Separately, blackjack usually contributes very little towards bonus playthrough precisely because its house edge is so low, so clearing an offer at the tables is rarely practical.
