How Ontario regulation works
Who licenses online casinos in Ontario, what the AGCO and iGaming Ontario each do, and what the rules mean for you as a player.

Ontario opened a regulated online gambling market in April 2022. Before that, the only provincially run option was OLG. Today an operator can offer real money online casino games to Ontario residents only if two things are true: it is registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, and it has signed an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario.
The two bodies, plainly
The AGCO is the regulator. It handles registration, sets the Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming, inspects operators and enforces the rules, including fines. iGaming Ontario is a separate agency that holds the commercial contract with each operator and is the party the player's money relationship ultimately sits behind. One decides whether you are allowed to operate; the other is who you are contracted with.
What the standards actually require
The standards cover game fairness testing by accredited labs, published return-to-player information, segregation of player funds, advertising limits, mandatory responsible gambling tools, identity verification, and complaint handling with an escalation route. Operators must let you set deposit limits and take time-outs, and they must not advertise specific bonus amounts to the general public in Ontario.
Why it matters for your money
On a registered site, a dispute has somewhere to go. You raise it with the operator, and if that fails you can escalate. Games are tested rather than self-certified. Withdrawals cannot be blocked by invented terms. None of that exists on a site outside the framework, which is why every casino on this site is on the iGO list and nothing else appears here.
Reading a directory entry
An entry shows the brand, the registered operator company and the offerings the operator is approved for — casino, poker, sports betting, or a combination. The registered company name is the important part. Brands change names and run multiple sites; the legal entity is what is registered. On this site we show the registered operator on every casino card for exactly that reason.
What is not on the list
If a brand is not in the directory, it is not contracted to offer online gambling to Ontario residents, whatever its own marketing says. There is no partial status and no pending tier you should gamble on.
Checking for yourself
The operator directory published by iGaming Ontario lists every operator with a live agreement. Search the brand name, confirm the registered company matches the one in the casino's own footer, and only then create an account. It takes under a minute and it is the single most useful habit an Ontario player can build.
