Online baccarat in Ontario
Reviewed by Danielle Tremblay, Editor
Baccarat has a reputation for being complicated that it does not deserve. You place one of three bets — banker, player or tie — and the cards are dealt according to fixed rules that neither you nor the dealer can influence. There are no decisions to make after the bet. What makes baccarat attractive is the house edge: banker carries roughly 1.06 per cent after commission and player roughly 1.24 per cent, both among the best numbers available in a casino. The tie bet, at around fourteen per cent, is the outlier and is the one thing to avoid. This page explains the rules, the third card conditions in plain terms, and how baccarat is presented at our five licensed Ontario casinos, all of which are registered with the AGCO and contracted by iGaming Ontario.

How a hand plays out
Two cards go to player and two to banker. Tens and face cards count zero, aces one, other cards their face value, and only the last digit of the total matters — so nine plus seven is six. A total of eight or nine on the first two cards is a natural and ends the hand. Otherwise fixed drawing rules decide whether a third card is dealt. You never choose.
Which bet to make
Banker wins slightly more often than player, which is why a commission of around five per cent applies to banker wins. Even after commission it remains the better bet. Player is close behind and avoids the commission arithmetic. Tie pays a large multiple but loses so often that it carries an edge roughly ten times worse than the main bets. Side bets follow the same pattern.
Scorecards and streaks
Baccarat tables display bead plates and big road scorecards tracking previous results, and players read patterns into them. Each hand is independent within a shoe, and any dependence card removal creates is far too small to exploit. The scorecards are tradition and atmosphere; they are not information.
Where to play in Ontario
888casino's in-house live studio gives baccarat the most attention of the five, with several tables and betting ranges. BetMGM offers both software and live baccarat with the widest stake spread. LeoVegas handles it well on mobile. PlayOJO and Jackpot City include baccarat as part of a broader table selection rather than as a focus.
